1025 Fifth Avenue

Metropolitan Museum of Art

1025 Fifth Avenue is one of the most prestigious Fifth Avenue addresses, located between 83rd and 84th Streets, directly across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Unlike the prewar buildings on either side, 1025 Fifth Avenue is a postwar building, marked by a long canopy that extends deeply to the actual entrance to the building lobby, which is set-back, creating a gap between 1020 Fifth Avenue, a stately prewar co-op just south of 1025 Fifth, and three former mansions north of 1025 Fifth Avenue.  The actual building is composed of two mid-block buildings on 83rd and 84th Streets that are connected only at the lobby level.  These 13-floor, post-war buildings were built in 1955 by H. L. Feldman as a cooperative and has approximately 158 units total.  The clever developers, unhampered by historic preservation initiatives that would come into effect in later years, purchased a turn of the century mansion designed by Ogden Codman and replaced it with 1025 Fifth's lobby entrance in order to boast a Fifth Avenue building address when the actual buildings are located on the sidestreets.  The lobby of 1025 Fifth Avenue was designed by Raymond Loewy Associates and is one of the largest in the city, extending approximately 100 feet to connect the midblock buildings and features an attractive landscaped central courtyard.  It is sleek and modern with black and white terrazzo paving and shining marble floors.  This luxury cooperative offers residents a variety of amenities for comfortable living, such as a 24 hour doorman, concierge, fitness center, parking garage and pets upon board approval.  The location is one of the most coveted in the city, across the street from Central Park and Metropolitan Museum, designer shops, fine dining, and some of the best NYC schools...a truly white glove experience!

588 West End Avenue

588 West End Avenue

588 West End Avenue, located on the East Side of the Avenue between 88th and 89th Streets was built in 1922 by the architectural firm, Schwartz & Gross, the most prolific architects on West End Avenue, who also built the adjacent 590 West End Avenue.  This stately seventeen-story building was converted to a cooperative in 1879 and has approximately 63 units, originally all 1 and 2 Bedroom apartments though some combinations have created a small number of larger apartments.

The interior of 588 West End Avenue has an intimate quality with semi-private hallways and only four units per floor.  Prospective purchasers are drawn to the apartments' high beamed ceilings, lovely moldings, original French Doors, generously proportioned rooms and excellent storage space.  Perched atop this elegant pre-war building, the Penthouse level, on the 17th Floor is unique with only three apartments, each with enviable wrap-around terraces and exterior square footage even larger than interior square footage.

The façade of 588 West End Avenue is brown brick with classical accents and embellishments of limestone and terracotta located near the ground level and upper stories.  The canopied entrance leads to an elegant marble lobby.  This conveniently located pre-war co-op is pet friendly and features a part-time doorman on duty from 8am-2am, live-in Super, private storage bins, central laundry (washer/dryers are also allowed in the units), and a bike room.

Two of our favorite apartments at 588 West End Ave are # PH17C and # 8A
